Big hearted fire crews came to the rescue of a baby hedgehog they found wandering in the road near Doncaster.

Officers from Rotherham Blue Watch rescued the cute animal on their way back from fitting smoke alarms in Tickhill.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Firefighters stopped traffic and scooped him up, popped him in a smoke alarm box and then delivered him to a hedgehog rescue in Bramley.

“Hopefully he's ok and can be released when he's a bit bigger.”
