the family of Lewis Eddleston have paid tribute to the teenager who was due to celebrate his 14th birthday on Sunday.

The youngster, who had been missing since last Sunday, was discovered in a ditch just over a mile from the field he was last seen on Wednesday.

The statement said: “Lewis was a shining light and a character with a big heart, always managing to make you smile in any situation.

“Lewis had a passion for music and on numerous occasions always tried to push the boundaries on the household’s decibel limit. He loved to play the XBOX online and watch a number of movies, normally past the ‘Lights out’ time set by his parents every night.

“Lewis was ‘Mummy’s boy’ and always managed to wriggle out of situations.

“Lewis touched all of our lives in the way that a piece of the family jigsaw will always be missing. He loved his nieces and nephew, always wanting to be involved in their lives and daily activities.

“He will be sorely missed by all of us who love him.

“We are proud to have enjoyed our time with Lewis and looked forward to celebrating his fourteenth birthday, with him, this coming Sunday.

“Whilst we are thankful for all the help and the overwhelming support that we have received, from family, friends and all those who helped in trying to bring Lewis home safely and by supporting us at this distressing time, we ask that people respect our privacy and allow us time to grieve. Lewis will be forever missed but never forgotten by his family, friends and the community.

“At times he may not have been an angel but now he’s an angel looking down on all who loved him.”
