Family history fair comes to Doncaster

Who do you think you are? Find out when the Yorkshire Group of Family History Societies holds its Family & Local History Extravaganza at Doncaster College for the Deaf, Ledger Way on September 21.

The Yorkshire group is working with the Doncaster and District Family History Society.

The group’s Tony Beardshaw said: “The event is held in a large sports hall to accommodate a whole host of organisations and companies, so whether you are a beginner or an experienced researcher you will find plenty of resources to help you trace your ancestors.”

Exhibitors include Family History Societies from all over Yorkshire including Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, and many from further afield including Lincolnshire and Warwickshire.

Other organisations include the Doncaster Archives and Doncaster and District Philatelic and Postcard Society.

Tony added: “Throughout the day there will be plenty of experts on hand to guide beginners in how to get started with their family history.

“There will also be a series of talks from experts including the National Archives about early civil registrations, sources beyond births, marriages and deaths and a talk about research using DNA testing.”

The fair is open from 10am to 4pm. Admission is £2 for adults, accompanied children under 14 get in free.
