Fabulous forties tea dance aids memory therapy at Doncaster hospital

Afternoon tea and the best china were the order of the day when a Doncaster service for people experiencing memory problems held a 1940s themed tea dance to celebrate Dementia Awareness Week.

Staff dressed up in vintage clothes and patients and carers enjoyed dancing and music of the era, at the event held by the Memory Therapy Complex Care Service, at Forest Gate Day Hospital on the Tickhill Road site of Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH).

RDaSH Occupational Therapist Tina Jones said of the event: “Everyone had a fantastic time and a huge thanks to all our staff for going to so much effort with their outfits and for baking some wonderful cakes!

“Music is great for stimulating the body and mind and it was lovely to see patients and carers enjoying some relaxed social time together with others in a similar situation. We’re delighted it was such a success and we’re definitely going to be planning similar events with different themes in the future.”

Organised by Alzheimer’s UK, Dementia Awareness week runs between May 16 and 20 with the intention of educating people about the condition.
