As the sun sizzles and summer finally arrives residents are being urged not to waste water.

Severn Trent Water, which supplies water to the Isle of Axholme, parts of Doncaster such as Bawtry and surrounding villaages as well as North Nottinghamshire, has issued the warning.

It follows advice from a new Energy Saving Trust report published on July 4, asking people to think before splashing out.

The report says that although people are now aware and getting better at saving energy, they are not so good at saving water.

Therefore Severn Trent Water is calling on its customers to make some simple changes in order to make a big difference to the amount of water used.

Doug Clarke, water efficiency manager for Severn Trent said: “One of the best pieces of advice we have for our customers to save water is to take a shorter shower. For instance, did you know that the average shower time is eight minutes and by having one just one minute less you could save up to 10,000 litres of water per year? So why not challenge yourself and your family to a faster shower tomorrow.

“We are also able to offer our customers water efficient shower heads at less than half of the price they’ll find them in the shops.

“You don’t need any special skills to fit them, they simply attach to your current shower and only use nine litres per minute - less than half of an ordinary shower.”

“Likewise making best use of your washing machine by using shorter wash cycles can save you water, energy and therefore money. Don’t forget to make full use of your dishwasher too by not switching it on until it is full.”
