Hardware firm’s environmental efforts impress MP

BUSINESSES have been urged to take a leaf out of a green-thinking home improvement company’s book by a Doncaster MP.

Rosie Winterton. the Doncaster Central MP, recently visited the B&Q store, off White Rose Way, to hear how the company has been ranked among the country’s most environmentally friendly firms.

B&Q was placed 18th in The Sunday Times Green Companies List earlier this year - one of only four retailers in the top 50.

Miss Winterton heard the firm only buys timber from proven, responsible legal forests and is supplying Doncaster customers with sustainable products at no extra cost.

She was also told about B&Q’s 16,000 different timber products which can be traced back to legal forests.

The company insists no other retailer of similar size is close to matching these figures.

Miss Winterton said: “It’s good to see a business working hard to operate more sustainably. I hope this inspires other companies to follow their lead.”
