Dugher is Ed’s right-hand man

BARNSLEY East MP Michael Dugher is the new Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Labour Leader Ed Miliband.

In his new role, Michael will attend Shadow Cabinet meetings, advise Mr Miliband on a range of issues and be a point of contact for backbench MPs.

Mr Dugher said: “I am honoured to have been appointed as Ed Miliband’s PPS and I look forward to working with him and the rest of the team to help expose the unfairness of the Government’s cuts and the effect they are having in places like Barnsley”.

ARSONISTS gutted a BMW convertible in Bolton-upon-Dearne on Sunday at around 7.25pm on Carr Head Lane.Firefighters from Dearne station spent an hour at the scene.

A SPORTSMEN’S dinner is being held in honour of the Mexbrough triple-death-crash teenagers.

Sheffield Wednesday legend David Hirst will be the main speaker at Pastures Lodge, in a fundraiser for the families of Jonathan Scott, Robert Tepper, and Lauren Birkett, who died in a head-on smash in Mexborough at Christmas.

THE Mexborough and Swinton branch of the Royal British Legion is holding a commemorative buffet on Sunday, June 5, to mark the 90th anniversary of the Legion and the branch.

The event at 2pm at the LNER Club, Rowms Lane, Swinton, will also commemorate the anniversary of the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944.

A CHARITY fun day will be held at the Waterfront Golf Club in Manvers later this month in aid of Help for Heroes. The event will be held on Saturday, June 25, and teams of three are required to take part.

The first tee time will be 2pm and then an evening of entertainment and a buffet will start from around 7pm.
