A foal trapped in head-high ditch water has been rescued by fire crews.

The helpless animal was led and lifted from the ditch off the A18 near Crowle at 11.40am yesterday morning (Monday).

After being checked over and found to be uninjured, the foal was left with its mother away from the river bank.

Isle fire crew members used equipment including a salvage sheet, riot shields and an airpath to get the young pony to safety.
