Devastated friends of a young reveller, whose body was found in a canal this week, told of the dramatic moment he staggered towards the water’s edge and disappeared from sight, while on a night out with them.
Specialist police divers recovered the body of Jonathan Law, 22, from the Dearne and Dove Canal at Swinton on Monday, after a huge hunt.
He was found just yards from the village’s Bridge Bar, where he was last seen at the weekend.
Ryan Straw, who was one of the last people to see him, said: “I understand from the CCTV footage that the police have, that you can see him staggering near the side of the canal.
“He was on his own... there wasn’t anyone behind him or anything.
“I had been with him on the night and he was his usual self and in a happy mood.
“None of us can believe what has happened.”
