Doncaster Rovers Belles 2 Oxford United Women 2: Belles must be more clinical - Murray

Murray scored twice but Oxford rescued a point with a stoppage time equaliser.

After the game, the Belles forward claimed missed chances cost her side all three points.

She said: “We were winning 1-0 and then we were 2-1 up and concede from the last kick of the ball. We had a number of chances and it’s about us being more clincial in front of goal.

“Their goalkeeper made a couple of good saves but we had a lot of good chances and we should be putting them away.”

Despite the draw, Murray’s brace brought her tally for the season to three goals in as many games.

On her goals, Murray said: “ For the first one, I just watched the ball come down and I connected with it well. For the second, Becks (Rebecca Rayner) did brilliantly to keep the ball in play and that allowed me to stick it away.”

The draw means Doncaster maintained their unbeaten start to the season. Had it not been for the heroics of U’s keeper Demi Lambourne. they would have sealed their second win of the season.

After a positive start, the visitors made their pressure count after 22 minutes when Oxford were unable to clear a corner properly and Lambourne had no chance of keeping out a superb half-volley from Murray that flew into the net.

The busy Lambourne then produced a superb save to prevent Kirsty Hanson from doubling Doncaster’s lead, with Belles goalkeeper Jules Draycott then doing well to hold Ellie Noble’s low effort.

Belles continued to impress after half time, with Lambourne standing up well to a powerful drive by Jess Sigsworth, but Oxford pegged their opponents back against the run of play.

Hannah Short intercepted a loose ball before sending Chloe Chivers clear down the right and she advanced on goal before producing a fine finish across Draycott into the bottom corner.

Chivers then had a goal disallowed for offside before Doncaster regained the lead with seven minutes left, as Rebecca Rayner won the ball in the Oxford area before giving Murray an open goal.

Belles looked set for victory but Hines had other ideas as, in the third minute of stoppage time, she bent a superb free-kick into the top corner.

Belles host Everton on Thursday in the FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup (7.30pm).
