Loose-forward Green played his part in an impressive 28-14 victory over a strong Keighley Cougars at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Green makes no secret that he would like the head coach role at his hometown club having served under Gary Thornton for two years, but was more interested in the result.

“All Rhys Lovegrove and myself can do is to keep the club in touch with the top while we are in charge until such time as someone else comes in or they give us the job,” he told The Star.

Green, who would be a popular appointment with a lot of the club’s supporters, says there is a need for more improvement in the team but was delighted with both the result and the performance.

“We knew that they were a good side and that we’d have to play well and we did in what was a four-pointer,” he said.

“I thought we dominated the first 20 minutes. We won the field position battle and we put them under a lot of pressure but we didn’t convert it into points.

“Had we been a bit more clinical I think we’d have been better placed than 12-10 at half-time.

“They came from 12-6 down to lead 14-12 with tries either side of half-time but we didn’t panic and gradually wore them down and finished worthy winners.”

No one was more pleased with the result that ex-Cougar Charlie Martin, who posted his best performance of the season.

“Charlie likes to run out wide and he got the chance to do that today,” said Green.
