The Rotary Club of Doncaster St George’s, in conjunction with Doncaster Tourism, is delighted to announce the final figure from the Doncaster dragon boat race, which was held on Lakeside in July.

The Aurora Charity based in Doncaster & Bassetlaw will benefit from donations totalling £6,177, with other donations to be made via Rotary’s Community Grants Scheme.

A final cheque for £5,000 was presented to Aurora at the Doncaster Knights Rugby Club during a celebration dinner.

The monies have been raised by sponsorship of a Charity Team Building Event, comprising of 34 teams from local companies and fund raisers, racing against each other over a 200m course, in Chinese themed dragon boats, each with a team of 10 paddlers plus a drummer.

The winning crew was Rampton Hospital, very closely followed by Danum Round Table and Desperados (John Self Electrical).

The Dragon Boat Racing took place throughout the day and thousands of spectators enjoyed a Family Fun Day, which included children’s entertainment, craft & art stalls and representation from a number of charities.

This was the sixth time the annual event has been held and over £65,500 has now been raised for charities and worthy causes as a result. The Rotary Club of Doncaster St George’s and Doncaster Tourism would like to thank all those who contributed to a fantastic day of family fun and in particular to the 33 crews that entered into the racing.

The event will be held again on 9th July 2016 and teams that enter will be able to choose their own favourite charity to benefit from the majority of the money raised by their own racing crew.
