Classic drama ‘What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?’ will be shown as part of the Cosy Cinema programme at the Concertina Club in Mexborough on Thursday, April 28, at 7.30pm.

Starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, the film tells the story of a former child star who torments her paraplegic sister in their decaying Hollywood mansion.

The movie thrilled and terrified audiences in equal measures when first released in 1962 and to add to the atmosphere the club will be decorated in a creepy display of porcelain dolls brought in by members of the public.

There will also be a range of activities on the night based around the drama/thriller genre of films.

This is the latest film to be shown at the Dolciffe Road club as part of the Cosy Cinema scheme which has been brought to Mexborough by arts project Right Up Our Street and a core group of volunteers consisting of John Beal, Andy Pickering and Paul Dyson.

Ian Parks, arts supporter for Right Up Our Street, said: “We are experimenting with different types of films to see what people in Mexborough are really interested in.

“It is great to be following up our showing of the iconic South Yorkshire film, Brassed Off with a thriller which was nominated for many academy awards.

“As always with the Cosy Cinema, there will be so much more than just the film going on during the evening and we look forward to welcoming people to the venue.”

The cinema’s organising group would welcome new members who have an interest in film and in making sure that the local community in Mexborough have access to a cinema.

Mr Parks added: “We are really pleased with how local people have supported the cinema but we would like to hear from anyone who wants to get more involved. We have a really exciting programme of events coming up this year and would ask people to keep an eye on our Cosy Cinema Facebook page for the latest information about our forthcoming screenings.”
