Doncaster-born Danny Rose named in England squad for March friendlies

Doncaster-born Danny Rose has been handed the chance to stake his claim for a place in England's Euro 2016 squad after being called-up for this month's friendlies against Germany and Holland.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Rose and Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater were the eye-catching selections by boss Roy Hodgson as he fine tunes his squad ahead of this summer's European Championships.

Rose, who has impressed for Spurs this season, will compete with Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand for the left back slot.

The 25-year-old earned his first full international call in August 2014 ahead of games against Norway and Switzerland but did not feature.

He has been capped at England U21s level and also featured in Team GB’s side during London’s 2012 Olympic Games.

Rose played for Barnby Dun Colts in the Doncaster Junior Sunday League before joining Leeds United on schoolboy forms at the age of 12 and then signing for Spurs in 2007.

England face Germany on March 26 and Holland on March 29. The two games are a final audition for players before Hodgson names his Euro 2016 squad on May 12.
