ACOUSTIC Rotherham, the hiring fair, takes place at the Queen’s pub, Rawmarsh, Kilnhurst Road, from 1pm on April 17.

“JAILBIRD” Amanda Birch raised over £1,400 for charity Safe at Last when she allowed herself to be arrrested and locked up for sponsor money! The Rawmarsh woman from Rotherlets needed £500 to be released – but raised much more, with support from the Parkgate community.

WORK on the Rawmarsh Project will progress for the next nine months, at a cost of £1.7m. more than 13km of gas pipes will be replaced, beginning with the Sandhill area. The second phase will be Walker Place followed by Willow Avenue and Kilnhurst Road. Affected residents will receive letters from National Grid 10 days before work begins. Any interruption to supply should last no longer than one day.


EASTER celebrations are being held at The Place and at Conisbrough Castle tomorrow. The Place is running martial arts demonstrations with amateur radio running in the morning. Visitors can try out craft activties while learning about up-and-coming plans for the area. Starts 10am.

MEXBOROUGH & District Amateur Radio Society, who are now based at The Place in Conisbrough, will be holding a special weekend event at The Place from April 15-17. The event, Activating Castles On The Air, will be a worldwide one and the group are hoping to get as many contacts as possible. They will also be answering any questions about amateur radio. The call sign for the event is GB8CC.

CONISBROUGH and Denaby Main Heritage Group host a talk by Pat McLaughlin called Green Men & Gargoyles at The Ivanhoe Centre tonight (Thursday) at 7.30pm. Admission £1.50 members and £2 visitors.


AVA Lunch Community Cafe is open at Mexborough Baptist Church on Wednesdays from noon to 1.30pm.

A COFFEE morning is held at the Congregational Church every Saturday morning from 9.30-11.30am. The church room is available for hire.

A RE-ENACTMENT Group meets at Bank Street Methodist Church on Wednesday at 7.30pm. South Yorkshire Musical Comedy Society meets on Tuesday and Friday at 7pm. The Beavers Club meets on Tuesday at 5.30pm, Cubs on Wednesday at 5.45pm and Scouts on Thursday at 7.45pm. Girls’ Brigade meets on Thursday at 6pm. Coffee morning on Saturday from 10am to noon. The parent and toddler group meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30-11am.
