Disruption due on South Yorkshire's railway network after strike vote
Rail union RMT said guards and driver members at Arriva Rail North, which operates trains across the area, have voted for both strike action, and action short of a strike, on Monday, March 13, after the company “failed to give assurances on the future role of the guard on their services.”
The union said the company wants to extend a 'Driver Only Operation', which would see the 'removal or downgrading' role of the conductor.

Hide AdMembers voted by 83.6 per cent for strike action and by 93.5 per cent for action short of a strike.
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: “The union’s position on DDO is perfectly clear. We will not agree to any extensions of DOO and will fight to retain the safety critical role of the guard and to keep a guard on the train."
An Arrival Rail North spokesperson said: “As our modernisation proposals are still in the early stages, it is a shame that RMT has announced strike action. Our aim is to reach a constructive resolution and we urge RMT to continue the talks we have already started.
“We want to protect jobs and pay, and during our recent discussions we offered to consult fully with our people, customers and key stakeholders."
