Seventy-one houses in Doncaster which had been standing empty for over six months are being transformed into council homes.
The properties are in locations across the borough and were chosen in response to high demand for housing by people on the waiting list for council homes.
They will be refurbished to meet the Decent Homes Standard.
Susan Jordan, Chief Executive of St. Leger Homes, said: ”By providing us with a greater number of properties across the borough, this scheme is enabling us to help even more families who are in need of good quality, affordable homes. It is also making a difference by reducing the number of empty properties on our streets, which can be a blight on communities.”
Councillor Christine Mills, Doncaster Council Cabinet member for Housing, said: “This programme plays an important role in helping Doncaster Council achieve its Housing Strategy goals to reduce the level of empty properties and maximise the number of homes brought back into use as affordable housing. I am delighted that Doncaster Council and St. Leger Homes have partnered together to offer this scheme.”
