Tiegan Parnham, aged 14, from Mexborough, swam 2 miles 128 lengths in one hour and eight minutes at Dearne Valley Leisure Centre to raise money for her cousin, Bradley Christian’s humanitarian trip.

She said: “We were all so proud of Bradley when he was chosen by Sheffield Hallam University with only 10 places available and 70 applicants. We are really excited that Bradley application was successful to take part in this trip to Africa. The trip is self-funded so all of the family is thinking of different ways to help him raise the money needed.

“As I’ve always been a keen swimmer this was the perfect thing for me to do and it was great to have people there supporting me. I’ve managed to raise £200 towards his costs of £2300.

Bradley, a former employee of Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, will be taking part in the volunteer project which is coordinated by Vesabroad Humanitarian Project.

The trip will see Bradley travelling to Swaziland in Africa to work with children in schools delivering English lessons, and teach basic sanitation hygiene and nutrition through games and activities.

He will also be helping with renovation/construction of run down facilities.
