Christmas has arrived early again for one Crowle home owner.
Rob Brown has been decorating his house with thousands of dancing Christmas lights for around six years, all to raise money for local charities.
This year, the money will go to Lindsey Lodge Hospice, an independent charity that offers special care for people in the North Lincolnshire area with specific life-limiting conditions.
“Rob said: “This started with just a few lights, then a family friend said I bet you can’t do it like the Americans, so then I started increasing the number of lights.
“The first year we started it was a challenge, then we started to collect money for charity after that.
“There are about 8000 lights up outside the house, but my electricity bill only increases by about £30 over the festive season because they are all LED lights.
“We add more lights each year, so this year has seen some new tall green trees and new sparkling lights on the front of the house.
“This year have sequenced in selection of new songs including Let It Go from Disney’s hit film Frozen.”
Rob starts putting up the lights in the first weekend in November, and even takes a week off work later in the month to check all the lights are working correctly, ready for the big switch on on December 1.
“I’m delighted we can raise funds for such an amazing cause as Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
I also like a challenge, and each year look to improve on what went before,” said Rob.
He hopes to raise £400 for the charity, and to help him reach his target he has set up a Just Giving web page, in association with the Lindsey Lodge Hospice, for the first time.
He has also set up a text donation service, making it easier than ever for people to give.
The lights on 28 Saffron Way DN17 4GL will be switched on each day between 4pm and 10pm until January 2 2015.
Mayor Coun Paul McCartan said: “This is a unique experience for all those that enjoy Christmas and entertainment.
“We are lucky to have it in our town and I want to pay thanks to Rob for doing an amazing job and thank him for his fundraising efforts for many years.”
