Woman swindled out of money in Armthorpe

Sneaky thieves swindled a woman out of her belongings after cold calling her home in Armthorpe.

Police said the victim was in her back garden in Cherry Tree Lane, Armthorpe, when there was a bang at the front door.

She came into the house and closed the back door. However, there was nobody at her front door but at the end of her driveway there was an unknown man, who claimed she had ordered a pizza and asked for payment.

A police spokesperson said: “The woman stated she had not ordered a pizza. After around ten minutes of discussion with the man, the woman returned to her property and discovered that her back door was open.

“A number of items had been taken from her home, including jewellery and electrical items.”

The incident happened at about 10.30pm last night, Saturday, September 6.

The man outside her home is described as being white, aged in his early 20s, between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 8ins tall, of very slim build with a thin, pale face.

He was reportedly wearing a grey hooded top with a dark coloured baseball cap, blue jeans and blue and yellow trainers with reflectors on.
