Two wedding rings were among the items stolen in a burglary at a house in Clay Flat Lane, Rossington, and police are now appealing for information from the public.

The theft happened just days before the owners of the jewellery were due to get married - but despite the upset the ceremony went ahead.

Their house was broken into through a patio door between 10am on Sunday, April 13 and 3.30am on Monday, April 14.

Among the property stolen were two Palladium wedding rings, one of which is similar to the ring pictured, and both engraved with the phrase “Brian and Nikki 20/4/2014.”

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “I would appeal to anyone who has any information on this burglary to contact South Yorkshire Police immediately on 101.

“While any burglary is undoubtedly distressing for the victims, this case was especially upsetting as the couple’s wedding rings were stolen less than a week before their marriage ceremony - which did go ahead, but with substitute rings.

“The stolen rings are clearly of great sentimental value and it would mean a huge amount to this newlywed couple to get them back.”

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 103 of Monday 1April 14.
