A Hexthorpe teenager was jailed for burglary yesterday after he broke into a Doncaster home, stole a TV and drove away with it in the owner’s car.

Kaya McGrath, of Ramsden Road, was sentenced to two years and five months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty at Sheffield Crown Court.

McGrath, aged 19, and an accomplice, jailed for burglary last autumn, entered a house at Lister Avenue, Balby, during the early hours of August 19, 2013, through an unlocked dining room window.

The pair stole the television and car keys, then made off in the victim’s Skoda Yeti which was parked on the street in front of the house.

However they disturbed the resident, who saw the car being driven away and called police.

Officers found the stolen car abandoned on Ivor Grove, Balby, around half-an-hour later and spotted the pair as they awaited recovery for the vehicle.

The offenders were caught after a short pursuit and arrested.

The car, which was undamaged, was returned to the owner with the TV still in the boot.
