A £10,000 raid on one of Doncaster’s biggest superstores saw dozens of high-tech smart phones taken by thieves.

Burglars broke into the Asda store in High Street, Carcroft in the early hours of Sunday morning.

After getting into the store at around 12.20am, they stole between 20 and 30 iPad Airs and iPad 2s, worth around £10,000 in total.

Police say it is likely that those responsible will try and sell them on in the coming days and people are urged to be vigilant and not to fall into the trap of buying stolen goods.

Det Ch Insp Craig Robinson, who is leading an investigation into the theft, said: “The people stole these high value items will not want to hang on to them for long.

“It’s car boot sale season and the thieves may well try to sell these to unsuspecting buyers. Unknown to them, they could be buying stolen items and I ask people to be on the lookout.”

Police have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and will be reviewing CCTV footage.
