Under-fire police and crime commissioner Shaun Wright has cancelled a second public surgery this month.

Mr Wright had been due to take part in a public surgery at Doncaster Civic Offices on September 19, but this meeting has now been called off.

A spokeswoman for Mr Wright’s office said the decision was made while an ‘engagement review’ was carried out to arrange his appointments with the public in a new way.

She said it is hoped additional surgery dates can be arranged so everyone who wishes to speak to Mr Wright can do so.

It follows a previously scheduled meeting in Barnsley on September 5 also being postponed, with that decision put down to ‘no requests for appointments’.

Mr Wright had previously been holding fortnightly surgeries across South Yorkshire.

His next scheduled meeting is due to take place at Sheffield Town Hall on Friday, October 3, between 5pm and 6.30pm.

A spokeswoman said: “The commissioner has expressed a desire for all public surgeries to go ahead as planned and where possible to make himself accessible to all members of the public who wish to speak with him.

“The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is looking to arrange additional surgery slots to accommodate this.”

She added Mr Wright’s office will work to ‘ensure’ everyone who wishes to meet Mr Wright can do so.

Mr Wright told Thursday’s police and crime panel meeting that holding surgeries is an important part of his work. “There will be public engagement always taking place,” he said.
