Second man arrested over attempted murder of Rotherham taxi driver

A second man has been arrested of suspicion of attempting to murder a Rotherham taxi driver.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on Sunday and remains in police custody.

A 20-year-old man, also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, has been released on police bail following the incident in the early hours of Saturday morning.

An investigation was launched after police received a report that a 40-year-old man had been seriously assaulted on Campbell Drive in Herringthorpe at around 3.10am on Saturday.

The man suffered multiple injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Inspector Sean Bird, the investigating officer, said: “Although the injured man remains in a serious condition, he has improved slightly and regained consciousness.

“This was a vicious assault and we currently pursuing a number of positive lines of enquiry.

“I would continue to ask anyone who may have been in the area of Campbell Drive in the early hours of Saturday morning and has any information that may assist the investigation come forward and speak to officers.”
