Detectives investigating an attack on a Rotherham pensioner in his home believe his safe has been stolen.

Police were called after an 80-year-old man was found injured in his home on Salisbury Road, Maltby, on Friday.

The OAP was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Three men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and burglary have been released from custody.

Two 19-year-olds have been bailed pending further inquiries, while a 23-year-old is to face no further action.

Detective Sergeant Mike Fordham said he wants to trace the missing safe.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have information about this item,” he said.

“It is described as light grey, with a key lock and a black handle. The size is approximately 40cm x 30cm x 18cm, which is big enough to accommodate A4 documents, and weighs around 7kg.

“Salisbury Road is a busy thoroughfare with frequent buses and other vehicles passing through and I would appeal to anyone who may have been passing by, particularly early in the morning of Thursday, October 1, to cast their mind back - did you see anything suspicious?”
