Robbery ordeal for shop assistant

A woman working in a Doncaster corner shop was threatened by a man wielding a kitchen knife during a daylight robbery.

Two masked men burst into the Balby Mini Market on the corner of Balby Road and St John’s Road and threatened Anna Niedwska and escaped with hundreds of cigarettes. The raid took place at 12.45pm on Thursday, December 5.

Police said two men, with their faces covered, entered the shop and one threatened Anna with a large kitchen knife while demanding she fill a carrier bag with cigarettes. They fled in the direction of Earlsmere Avenue.

Within a few minutes police descended on the scene and the force helicopter hovered overhead as officers searched the back alleys off Balby Road.

Anna said: “It was terrible, it was very frightening. It is the first time we have been robbed.”

The man who was brandishing the knife was described as white, slim and around 5ft 9ins.He was aged around 19 or 20, had a local accent, and was wearing jogging bottoms as well as a grey hooded top with Abercrombie printed on the sleeves, in white lettering. The second man was also white and wore a dark black or blue coat with a large logo on the back and a hooded top underneath.

Witnesses should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident 720 of Thursday, December 5.
