British Transport Police confirmed that the emergency service presence in Kirk Sandall this afternoon was to deal with a fatal incident.
Officers were called to Kirk Sandall station at 12.34pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
A spokesman said: “Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
