The 75-year-old woman who was found dead at her home in Barnsley has been identified officially by police as Doreen Walker.
Emergency services were called to the house in Birkwood Avenue in Cudworth at about 5.35pm last Wednesday, and Mrs Walker’s body was found.
A post-mortem examination revealed that she died of multiple injuries.
Liam Naylor, aged 23, of Junction Street, Barnsley, appeared at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning charged with murder.
He has been remanded in custody until his next court date, which will be at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday, April 17.
A 17-year-old girl who was also arrested has been bailed pending further police inquiries.
Neighbours last week paid tribute to Mrs Walker, a mother of two and a grandmother, as ‘a lovely lady, salt of the earth’.
Glen Hansom, of Carrs Lane, who knew the family when he was growing up, said: “She was a typical Barnsley lady.
“She was always pleasant, and quiet in some respects.”
Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said Doreen had lived on the road for around 16 years.
He said: “She would always say hello and smile as she passed.
“It’s such a shock.”
