Man charged over serious attack on Rotherham taxi driver

A 22-year-old man has been charged after a Rotherham taxi driver was seriously assaulted in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Jordan James, of Laudsdale Road, East Herringthorpe, has been remanded in custody to appear before Rotherham Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Thursday, charged with Section 18 assault.

Police were called at around 3.10am on Saturday, October 3, following reports a 40-year-old taxi driver had allegedly been seriously assaulted in Campbell Drive, Herringthorpe.

The man remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Three men, aged 25, 21 and 20-years-old, remain on police bail in connection with the incident.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Enquiries continue and officers are still keen to hear from anyone with information. Please call 101 quoting incident number 178 of 3 October 2015, or quoting ‘Operation Throne’.”
