Shocked residents say they no longer feel safe on their Doncaster street after a man was stabbed in the neck.

The 24-year-old man was left with a single stab wound after the attack at a house on Everingham Road, Cantley, early on Sunday, November 1.

One woman, who did not want to be identified, said: “It’s frightening. It’s so worrying, but we are not safe anywhere nowadays.

“It’s a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, I think.

“You hear so many stories about the bad things that go on around here now.

“It’s getting to be like the Bronx in America it’s that bad. I try to keep myself safe and never go out alone at night, but then again are you necessarily safer in the day?

“I’ve lived here for many years now, and when I first moved it was absolutely beautiful. It’s all changed now. It started going downhill around ten years ago.

“I am seriously considering moving now, even though I really don’t want to as I don’t like moving about.

“But, if you go somewhere else are you just going to get more problems elsewhere? Nowhere is safe now.

“The world has changed and people have changed.”

A neighbour, who also wished to remain anonymous, was shocked to hear what had happened.

“We were in on Sunday morning and we didn’t see anything or hear anything. It’s not a surprise around here though to be honest, there’s always a police presence. The area is getting worse. I hope the man is okay,” she said.

Police were called at around 7am and the man was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary for treatment.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called to a property in Everingham Road at about 7am on Sunday, November 1 to reports of an altercation.

“A 24-year-old man from Doncaster suffered a single stab wound to the neck during the incident and was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary. His injuries are not life threatening.

“A 28-year-old man from Doncaster has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm. He has since been bailed pending further police enquiries.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 381 of November 1, 2015.
