A distraction burglar has targeted elderly women living in the Balby and Hexthorpe areas of Doncaster this week.

The first was on Monday afternoon when a 76-year-old woman living in Travis Gardens, Hexthorpe, opened the door to a young man claiming he needed to show her how to re-programme the boiler after gas works in the street.

After he left she found her purse containing £70 had been stolen.

Police believe the same man gained entry to the home of a 78-year-old woman in Lytton Close, Balby, on Tuesday afternoon by using the same story, taking her purse with £45 in it.

He is said to be in his early 20s, about 5ft 4ins tall, with short dark hair and police want anyone who saw suspicious activity in those areas to contact them on 101.
