A man who absconded from HMP Hatfield in Doncaster yesterday was soon back in custody.

Kevin Robinson, 29, from the Balby area, was serving an indefinite sentence for a wounding in 2007 and left the prison yesterday afternoon.

He was the seventh man to go on the run from the open prison in two months.

But following an appeal for information and extensive police searches, he handed himself in to Doncaster police officers yesterday evening.

A spokesman said: “Police would like to thank the public for their assistance.”

Don Valley MP Caroline Flint and ward councillor Pat Knight recently met the governor to raise concerns about the absconding rate.
