A big community clean up on land close to Dearne Valley College is the latest of a series that have been planned in 2014 by tidy Swinton councillors.

Councillors ken Wyatt and John Doyle have already carried out a clean sweep of the Fitzwilliam Estate in Swinton, Swinton Village, and the Bowbroom area of Swinton when the Swinton Ramblers’ Association was involved in a big clean up.

On September 5 a skip and council workers will be coming to St John’s Road and the junction of Goodwin Crescent to carry out another big clean up.

Coun Wyatt said: “We will be there helping to tidy up the streets and we are hoping local residents will also get involved. Getting local people involved in these cleanups helps them to take responsibility for the area’s in which they live. During the September clean up we aim to look at the wooded area near Dearne Valley College and hopefully get the college involved.”

He added: “Flyers will be put out about this quite soon providing all the information local people need. When this type of initiative happens it’s good to see people taking responsibility for cleaning an area and taking a bit of control of their own environment.

“As councillors we like to support these schemes, whether it’s getting in there ourselves and picking up litter or providing information and equipment such as skips.”
