Isle of Axholme police officers are linking with the North Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership in checking that motorists are driving legally.

The latest campaign by the Road Safety Partnership targets uninsured and unlicensed motorists who are out and about on Isle roads.

A spokesman from the Isle of Axholme policing team said: “Drivers should make sure their license is valid and up to date, especially those with photo card licenses, and that there is adequate insurance for their vehicle. Ignorance is not a viable excuse.”

Motorists are advised to visit for further information.

A 15-year-old youth riding a mini-moto at Keadby’s North End recently had his bike seized as he was driving on the highway without a valid license or insurance. Police said the vehicle will be destroyed.

The public is also reminded not to use their mobile phones while driving. Penalty notices are handed out to anyone seen offending, resulting in three points on the offender’s driving license and £100 fine.

A police spokesman commented: “Is the call really worth it? Be careful and pull over to a safe place when you need to use your phone. This includes sending a text message.”
