Tributes have been paid to a well known figure in the business community who has died after a battle with cancer.

Margaret Flower served as secretary of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) South and East Yorkshire Regional Committee.

Her death was announced by the FSB on Tuesday. The 65-year-old lived in Wadsley, Sheffield, and was married to Andrew Flower, who is branch chairman for South Yorkshire FSB. She also leaves a daughter, Julie.

She served for many years as secretary to both the South Yorkshire branch and the South and East Yorkshire region.

Gordon Millward, FSB regional chairman, said: “Margaret has been a long-serving, devoted servant of the FSB.

“When the chips are down, Margaret has always been the first to point to solutions to the pressing problems of running a large and effective regional operation.

“Even throughout her own illness she found the drive to ensure the regional wheels kept turning. So keen was she to ensure ‘business as usual’ that in May we published in the FSB weekly e-newsletter an article about Margaret finding the energy to type up the minutes from the regional committee meeting whilst in hospital undergoing chemotherapy. In her typical attitude of commitment, she reported that typing up the minutes was an effective way of filling the long days of medical treatment and it had a strangely regenerative effect. Such was her dedication to the FSB.”

The funeral service will be held at Grenoside Crematorium on September 8 at 3.30pm.
