A record number of businesses have entered this year’s Doncaster Business Awards.

Event organisers Doncaster Chamber have not revealed the number of entrants but said there was a ten per cent increase on those that came forward last year.

The awards, sponsored by Origin Broadband, aim to celebrate and reward the town’s top performing firms and entrepreneurs.

Dan Fell, chief executive officer of Doncaster Chamber, said: “I am delighted that so many local firms – of all sizes and sectors – have chosen to enter our prestigious Business Awards again this year.

“It is crucial that businesses do not shy away from shouting about their successes.

“Not only is celebrating success beneficial from an individual business’s point of view, it also positively contributes to the image of doing business in Doncaster and breeds confidence in the local economy.

“The fact that we have achieved a record number of awards entries is yet another sign that Doncaster’s economy is really starting to thrive.”

Judges are well underway with the first stage of the judging process which involves sifting and scoring of all the awards entries by an expert Business Awards panel, which consists of representatives from Doncaster Chamber, Doncaster Council, Sheffield Hallam University, Finance for Enterprise and the British Chambers of Commerce.

Following this, finalists will be invited to stage two of the process, which takes the form of an interview with the award sponsor alongside a Doncaster Chamber representative.

Final scores from both the panel and interviews will then be added together to determine the winner and runner-up of each category, which will be announced during the awards ceremony at the Doncaster Racecourse on Thursday, December 10.
