A bumper number of job opportunities could be on the way, within plans for a new Parkgate retail and leisure development.
Among facilities that Gregory Projects hopes to develop with local business Ron Hull Jnr could be a discount food store, other sales outlets and leisure provision, with over 250 parking spaces.
Plans are about to be submitted to Rotherham Council planners for the 3.87 acre site off the corner of Great Eastern Way and Broad Street, following Gregory’s acquisition of the site.
Richard Tovey, director at Gregory Projects said, “Parkgate is already considered to be one of the region’s premier retail destinations and the district centre plays a vital local role so it is a real coup for us to secure this superb development opportunity.
“The existing provision does not allow for budget operators which is where we hope to fill the gap, ultimately providing a greater variety of shopping. We are in discussion with potential operators which is very encouraging.”
The site, just one mile from Rotherham town centre, was formerly owned by Pendragon and operated as a car showroom. The site was remediated twelve months ago and has been vacant since then.
Leeds-based Gregory Projects recently completed Broad Street Plaza, a £40 million mixed use development in Halifax town centre which was over 90 per cent let prior to completion. The £40 million Foss Island retail park in York is also in the Gregory portfolio.
