Doncaster Airport is celebrating its tenth birthday with news that budget airline Wizz Air is adding a new route to Poland.

The move brings the number of destination offered by the airline from Doncaster to ten.

Wizz Air will open its 21st base in Lublin, Poland with one new Airbus A320 later this year.

The new three times weekly flights from Doncaster to Lublin will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from September 15 with lead in fares £15.49 one way.

Steve Gill, managing director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “This is fantastic news and a great way to start our 10th birthday celebrations. We are delighted that Wizz are further expanding their offering to Yorkshire passengers with this new route.”

Lublin is the largest Polish city east of the Vistula River and was recently a candidate for the title of 2016 European Capital of Culture.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport is Wizz Air’s second largest UK base and the only one in Yorkshire. The airport operates 33 Wizz Air flights per week to eight destinations including Bucharest in Romania, and Gdansk, Warsaw and Wroclaw in Poland.

A new route to Kosice was announced earlier this year and Lublin will become Doncaster’s tenth Wizz Air route, following Riga and Bucharest launching in 2014.

A spokesman for Wizz Air, added: “This new route further underlines Wizz Air’s commitment to Doncaster Sheffield Airport and the Yorkshire region.”
