From the end of May a Saturday rail service will run between Sheffield and Cleethorpes to allow day trippers to visit the town.

Services in the area were suspended in February following a landslide at the Hatfield and Stainforth section of the line.

The managing director of First Transpennine Express, Nick Donovan, said: “Network Rail are working as quickly as possible to restore a normal train service through Hatfield and Stainforth, although this is a challenging and time consuming task.

“We have therefore trained our drivers, had our trains cleared for use and found an opportunity to run a train via a different route.”

First Transpennine Express hope that this new service, combined with their two for one offer will attract people to the resort and boost tourism.

The replacement bus services will also continue to operate.
