A marketing manager has swapped rock ‘n’ roll for retail after taking on a new role at a major South Yorkshire shopping centre.
Karen Staniforth joined the team at the 800, 000 sq ft Frenchgate Shopping Centre in Doncaster after previously working as head of marketing at the Liz Hobbs Group, which promoted large scale music and entertainment events.
The 45-year-old, who lives in Rotherham, said: “I am really excited to be joining Frenchgate at a time when so much is going on from summer fashion shows to charity fundraisers and even a new pub opening.
“I have worked as a retail store manager as well as in a number of marketing roles so I am really looking forward to bringing my experience and skills from both to this new role promoting Frenchgate.”
She previously held marketing roles at Barnsley Council and the Magna Science Adventure Centre.
Karen was also national marketing director for Haslam Homes at Keepmoat Plc and store manager at Laura Ashley in Meadowhall, heading up a team of more than 30 members of staff.
She also established and ran her own home furnishings business.
In her spare time she volunteers for the Wildlife Trust and is also a trustee of the Children’s Charity.
Laurie Barton Wright, manager of the Frenchgate Centre, welcomed Karen to the team.
She said: “Karen has developed her marketing skills and business acumen through working across a diverse range of sectors including the entertainment and music industry, local authority, leisure, construction, and, of course, retail.
“As a result, she brings with her a combination of marketing know-how and knowledge, quite literally, from the shop floor during her time as a store manager.
“I’m sure she will be a very valuable asset to the management team here at Frenchgate.”
