Doncaster MP investigates help for town job-seekers

Rosie Winterton MP has spent time talking to local job seekers about the support they are getting to find jobs and stay in work.

The Labour MP for Doncaster Central was keen to see the work being done to help individuals on the Work Programme, which is being delivered in her constituency by public service provider A4e for the Department for Work and Pensions.

The Work Programme, now in its third year of operation, provides tailored support for unemployed customers who need more help to undertake active and effective job-seeking.

During the one and a half hour long visit to the A4e offices at Consort House, Waterdale, Doncaster, the MP joined an A4e trainer to talk to jobseekers in a group training session which looked at the challenges of finding work in the local labour market.

After the visit, Rosie Winterton said:”It’s hugely important that the people who are looking for work in Doncaster are given the help, support and training they need.”

A4e has been working hard to establish an excellent team of professional staff with a range of specialist skills to support individuals across the UK. The flexibility given to providers of the Work Programme has meant that A4e has been able to create a number of innovative programmes and specialist training to support local customers.
Andrew Hunsley, A4e business leader in Doncaster said: “We are really proud of the work we are doing in Doncaster, of our team and of the people we are helping, and we were pleased to be able to demonstrate this to our MP.  It was a very positive visit and a great chance for some of the job-seekers we support to speak directly to their local representative about their experiences.”|
A4e is delivering the Work Programme on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Job Centre Plus. The programme is part-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) The ESF in England is investing in jobs and skills – focusing on people who need support the most and helping them fulfil their potential.
