People wanting to use the toilets at Doncaster’s Frenchgate Interchange will need to pay 20p for use of the facilities from tomorrow.
The turnstiles will cost 20p to enter and are expected to be installed and operational from Friday, July 10.
They will accept 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p and £1 coins; however, no change will be given.
Change will be available from the Interchange Customer Service Desk.
There will be no charge for the use of the disabled access toilets.
A spokesman for the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) said the introduction of the charges will help SYPTE ‘to maintain the high level of cleaning and maintenance standards expected at Doncaster Interchange facilities,’ adding ‘They will also help to prevent incidents of vandalism, graffiti and damage’.
It brings Doncaster Interchange in line with other PTE operated sites.
Turnstiles have been in operation at Rotherham Interchange since June 2011 and at Sheffield and Barnsley Interchanges since September 2012.
Turnstiles were proposed by SYPTE as part of the cost saving measures in their medium term financial strategy, agreed by the then South Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority in March 2011.
Reflecting resource pressures across local government, SYPTE’s public transport budget has been cut by over £29 million since 2010, a reduction of nearly 30%.
