A marketing firm has become the 300th business to sign Barnsley’s Apprenticeship Pledge.

By signing the pledge, Bigfoot Digital has committed to employing 2.5 per cent of their workforce in apprenticeship positions.

Co-owner Lindsey Watson said: “As an online marketing agency, we need people who have a specialised skills set.

“As a business, we understand the best way for people to learn these skills is on the job.

“Employing apprentices allows us to get the vital skills we need whilst harnessing the talent that’s on our doorstep.”

The company is part of the One Barnsley Group, which includes some of the region’s largest public and private sector employers, and is working hard to raise the profile of apprenticeships.

Supporters of the pledge are promoting the benefits to other local businesses, partner organisations and the wider community.

Lindsey added: “I understand how difficult it is to get work experience. When I was at university, one year of my course was in industry working on live projects.

“This was really useful and once I’d completed my course it helped me to get a job. This experience stuck with me and it made me think about how I could help someone else to get their first steps onto the career ladder.

“Our apprentice, Cally, has been with us since August and, in this relatively short amount of time, she’s learnt a vast amount of skills. Not only does she offer design support to the team, but she is responsible for her own clients and managing their campaigns.”
