A STREET booze ban could be extended right across Rotherham.
The DPPO (Designated Public Place Order) is requested by the Safer Rotherham Partnership’s violent crime priority group.
At present, DPPO’s are in place in Wath and Rotherham town centres only.
The orders give both police and police community support officers the power to confiscate any alcohol from those seen to be causing ‘nuisance, annoyance or disorder’.
The borough-wide ban is being considered, due to widespread problems of alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour.
If implemented, Rotherham Council would be only the second authority in Yorkshire to introduce a DPPO covering the entire local authority area.
Such orders usually apply to limited spaces.
