Bogus cancer charity fundraisers are conning people on their doorsteps in Doncaster.
South Yorkshire Police are warning members of the public to be vigilant of doorstep callers collecting money for sponsorship on behalf of registered charities.
This is following several recent reports of a suspicious person claiming to be doing a run locally to raise funds for Cancer Research UK in the Wheatley and Kirk Sandall areas.
A police spokesman said: “Those who are genuinely collecting money for charity will be happy to show identification to verify their details, have appropriate paperwork to collate personal information and usually wear clothing displaying the charity logo. Please do not give money or banking details to doorstep callers who cannot provide these details. Always be cautious of anyone who turns up on your doorstep without an appointment”.
To report any suspicious behaviour or activity call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. You can also report any dubious traders to the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 08454 040506.
