Paige Salt, aged 22, of Doveholes Drive in Handsworth, lost her best friend Kyle Hancock to sudden adult death syndrome in October 2011.

Kyle was just 18 when he died and at the time was in his first year studying sports journalism at university.

Paige explained: “He was discovered lifeless after suffering from sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS). Kyle was like a brother to me, I could go to him for anything and he would always listen and give me the best advice he could minus the banter at weekends with football, it’s so strange without him not having our banter at weekends but he remains with me every single day and makes me the strongest most outgoing person I am today.”

It is for this reason that Paige has spent the last five years fundraising for various worthy causes but most specifically for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

She continued: “I am now planning my second annual charity football match in memory of our friendship as Kyle was a mad Sheffield Wednesday fan and I’m a mad Sheffield United fan, so I am getting together players of each team to go head to head. I will also be holding a raffle and auction during and after the game. Last year was extremely successful and we raised nearly £2,000 which has been a great contributor to a new screening process for CRY to help medical professionals detect any abnormalities in the heart to help save lives that has been booked in his home town Bradwell Derbyshire in 2018.”

The event takes place on Sunday July 16, from noon onwards with a 1pm kick off, at Hillsborough Arena, Middlewood Road.

There will also be a raffle and a silent auction with items from Manchester United and Everton, beauty vouchers and days out with the family including Legoland and Sealife.
