Police are appealing for information after a man was left in a serious condition after coming off his motorbke in Wath yesterday (Tuesday July 9).

A 24-year-old man was riding his red Honda motorbike along Cutts Avenue, in Wath upon Dearne and was negotiating a right hand bend towards Cemetery Road when a silver Vauxhall Corsa was travelling in the opposite direction.

The Corsa driven by a 74-year-old man moved out towards the centre of the road to avoid minor road works on the nearside.

The front of the motorbike collided with the offside wing mirror of the car, the rider lost control of the bike and left the road to the nearside, hitting a brick wall and a gate of a nearby house before landing in a garden.

The rider from Wath suffered serious leg injuries and is being treated in Northern General Hospital.

The car driver also from Wath was not reported to have been injured.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or seen the manner of driving prior to it to contact South Yorkshire Police 101 quoting incident number 609 of 9 July.
