For University Centre Doncaster students had a real treat recently when they were paid a visit by the popular BBC Breakfast business host.

Stephanie came to talk to aspiring business students at the University Centre’s High Melton campus about the path she took to get into television.

She spoke about her background and the diverse route she has travelled from university, to her time as a researcher on Tomorrow’s World and producer on the BBC Radio 4’s Today programme and then lead producer for the main news working with business editor, Robert Peston and then onto Breakfast TV.

She told of plenty of amusing anecdotes and stories to illustrate her ten years in financial journalism and had her audience in stitches of laughter but she underlined her story with serious points on the problems she encountered as a women from the north in the world of business and the hard work needed to get to where she is today.

Andy Parkes, Business Development Manager for Higher Education at the University Centre, who organised for the BBC presenter to come to the College, said,

“We were delighted to welcome Steph McGovern, BBC Breakfast’s Award winning business presenter, to our University Centre High Melton campus to give a talk to undergraduate and professional students. Steph provided an entertaining insight into her career and invaluable advice and encouragement to our students.”
