PROTESTERS to the proposed closure of Wombwell Baths have until next month to press their plea.

Organisers of the petition against the loss of the last Victorian baths in Barnsley have requested a meeting with Council leader Steve Houghton, over the 97-year old building.

The baths still boasts a large membership and is used by six local schools.

Managers Barnsley Premier Leisure claim they need more cash from the council to keep it open.

A report on the baths will be presented to Barnsley Council’s Cabinet at the end of May, and it is then that a final decision will be made.
